“My Heart Bleeds”

A poem by Gary Shulman, MS. Ed.

Humankind-a massive mistake
For lessons of history seem never learned
Diversity scorned children still burned
What is the answer to murderous choices
How do you cope when death still rejoices
At sights of suffering mother and child
Victims of those whose souls are now blind
To compassion, to reason, to kindness to love
Is there a miracle from spirits above?
History repeats, lessons never seemed learned
Diversity scorned and children still burned
Will humanity ever turn this around?
It seems no peace shall ever be found!
I have no answers, just one simple plea
Keep your hatred within…..just let others be!
As history has taught us, that’s merely a dream
For humanity learns little
Evil minds will still scheme
I don’t know the answer
I just feel the pain
My heart just bleeds
For the people of Ukraine
