“I’m Insecure”

A Poem by Lenell Allen

Low on trust but full of love,

What’ll I do when the trust runs out,

Time stops and I stand still,

What’ll I do,

when I’m full of love but empty on trust,

My heart,

I’m sure it’ll rust,

Turn black as night poisoned by fake lovers of the world,

What if I

decide

to take my love away,

Becoming hollow

until someone who loves me anyway comes along,

Someone softer than my stone heart,

Shows me love anyway;

What will become of my trust then?

Will it rebuild,

Will a new love refill the meter on my empty trust

or is that the end of it,

Destroyed

My trust irreparable,

My heart rebuilt,

My love given away

to someone who leaves me,

Constantly peeking over my shoulder,

All because I’m full of love with no trust left to give;
