A poem by Shamain Simeon
My pages have sat empty
My pen has been untouched
Although the words are there
They’re jumbled all mixed up
Events have numbered many
They linger like a haze
I’m not one to complain though
As others suffer much worse days
I’m certainly not short of content
On this roller-coaster ride
If anything it’s overloading
Faster than I can write
But each time I sit down
To empty out my head
Exhaustion takes a stand
I fall hard upon my bed
Before the Sun I rise
To start all over again
Look on the drawer beside me
At my paper and my pen
I say to myself
When I get home I’m gonna write
Before I know it the day is gone
Getting home late in the night
So while I have this moment
Of quiet just to sit
I’ll fill some lines with words
And cherish these short minutes
Soon the roller-coaster ride
Will finally reach its end
But right now these precious seconds
Are for my paper and my pen
